As Spring Festival approaches, more and more families plan to visit abroad during the long holiday.

According to tourism website Tuniu.com, bookings of outbound group trips for parents traveling with children at that time has risen from last year. Popular destinations are Japan, South Korea, the United States and Europe.

Many agencies have special outbound itineraries for parents and children, for example, to visit the University of Cambridge, combining education and recreation.

One popular product is a 14-day tour to the east and west coasts of the US. The itinerary intends to make children more mature through the shared experience and increased communication with their parents.

In addition to traditional package tours, some Chinese favor cruise tours in Japan and South Korea.

The website said tourism data in recent years reveals that most travelers like to spend Lunar New Year in a Disneyland Park.

Some theme parks will have special activities during the festival. For example, the Disneyland, California, park will be decorated in Spring Festival style. Mickey and Minnie will be dressed in traditional Chinese costumes to interact with visitors.

Chinese parents should prepare for such overseas trips well in advance as it takes a long time to get a visa for the US or Europe. It can also save costs as many tourism agencies offer discounts for early registration.
