Famous shopping streets in Shanghai

Grand Gateway Plaza

Grand Gateway Plaza opened on December 28, 1999, adding a western style shopping mall to the synergy of the dynamic Xujiahui commercial district. Following a market-oriented strategy, Grand Gateway competes with unparalleled management. The mall's bright and spacious main entrance sits on top of the Xujiahui subway stop, facilitating customer traffic. The 25,000 sq. m. outside plaza features a grand stairway of 39 large steps to the second floor entrance and a six-tier lighted water fountain ensemble. The mall itself has seven floors of shops, six above ground and one basement level. Over 70,000 sq. m. of floor space is used for retail shops; the rest is for public activities. The floors are neatly and logically divided into retail, entertainment, recreational and dining areas. The focal center of the mall is a 46m diameter atrium supporting a 36m high glass dome. The two wings that radiate off the atrium are also roofed with glass, so the entire shopping mall is infused with natural light. This gives a sense of openness and a relaxed ambiance to all who visit. The mall is equipped with more than 94 lifts and escalators, and has a large underground parking lot with space for 1400 cars. Grand Gateway's dramatic setting and accessibility have made it the location of choice for some of the world's best-known retail names.
