China Daily | Updated: 2012-04-12 10:28

The 29th Weifang International Kite Festival will kick off on April 17 in Shandong province's Weifang, known as the "city of kites" in China.

Ten themed and carefully designed events, covering kite flying, cultural activities, tourism promotion, and business talks, will be held during the 10-day festival.

The 8th international kite-flying championship contest and its awards ceremony will be held on April 22. Teams from 67 countries and 30 provinces in China are invited to the contest.

During the contest, kites with unique features will be picked up for possible inclusion in the Guinness Book of World Records.

The International Kite Festival has been held annually since 1984. The event attracts kite enthusiasts from across the world.
