As one of the most popular weekend escapes for the residents of the coastal city of Yantai, Kongtong island is known for its out-of-the-way location, pollution-free air and a wide choice of seafood.

The island, in Shandong province, has a distinctive beach with rocks that have gradually come to resemble ferocious statues, due to the wind and ocean waves. The island is the largest offshore island near Yantai, surrounded by a cluster of smaller islands.

With no industry and a small population of less than one thousand, the island's eco-environment is ideally preserved. The island is covered with thick forests of trees and is home to a lighthouse with a history of nearly 150 years.

Visitors can take a boat trip at a pier in Yantai city and then take a boat trip to Kongtong island.
