Portuguese to please
The buffet at Vasco's at Hilton Beijing Wangfujing will once again feature fare created by Elisabete Real and her husband Fernado Real from March 3-13. Owner and master chef of Tromba Rija Restaurant in Leiria, Portugal, the couple will bring to Beijing more than 60 recipes, all of which are home-style village favorites.

Pancake race through obstacle course
Hilton Beijing is organizing a pancake race on March 8 from 6 pm to 8 pm. The lobby will be transformed into a challenging obstacle course through which contestants will navigate their way while tossing a freshly made pancake. The winner will receive a sparkling 2011 Hilton Beijing pancake "tosser" trophy, with other prizes for the runners-up.

Sake Yaki brunch
Nadaman, the Japanese restaurant at the Pudong Shangri-la Shanghai, is offering Sake Yaki brunch every Saturday and Sunday from 11:30 am to 2:30 pm. The Sake Yaki brunch features unlimited teppanyaki, tempura and sashimi as well as endless pours on sake, sake cocktails, Suntory draft beer, sparkling wine and soft drinks. The brunch is 388 yuan a person with 15 percent surcharge.

Osaka to you
Osaka is well known as the "Kitchen of Japan", where the cuisine brings out the natural flavors of the ingredients. From March 18 to April 3, Grand Hyatt Shanghai will host Yasumasa Takeyama, guest chef from Hyatt Regency Osaka, who will create menus specially designed for Shanghai guests at On 56 - Kobachi. The special menus feature Inari Sushi, spring vegetable tempura, simmered bamboo shoots and more.

The Peninsula Shanghai will be in the mood for love on March 14, the White Day. Romantic celebrations begin with a White Day's Eve five-course Champagne dinner at Sir Elly's on March 13. The menu features the same ingredients for him and for her but with different presentations. The goose liver starter is served with almond gel and parsnips for him, and with a torchon macaroon and soy caramel for her. The dinner is priced at 1,288 yuan and includes a glass of champagne for two, or 1,880 yuan, including 20 grams of Schrenckii caviar. Both prices are subject to a 15 percent surcharge.
