The X-Lake Forum, which was hosted by the Ministry of Science and Technology and the Shenzhen government, opened in Shenzhen on Nov 15.

With the tagline "Innovation·Sustainable Development" and the keywords "Openness·Integration·Future", the forum invited experts and scholars from home and abroad to discuss openness and integration and share cutting-edge scientific and technological innovations.

Roger David Kornberg, Nobel laureate in chemistry, spoke of the importance of disease prevention in his keynote speech. In his view, disease prevention is actually much more important than treatment.

Atmospheric particle pollution is the primary enemy of human health around the world, especially air pollution. The solution to air pollution should be technology, he said.

Efim Zelmanov, Fields Medal winner, academician of the National Academy of Sciences in the United States, and foreign academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, said that Shenzhen needs top-notch universities, strong comprehensive research bodies, and a mathematics education system that covers different levels.

He hopes that in the next decade, Shenzhen can become a world-class research center, talent training center, and international exchange center.

The "International Science and Technology Information Center", the X-Institute, the Shenzhen innoX, and the New Cornerstone Science Foundation were unveiled at the forum.

Thirteen parallel forums on science and technology, education, industry, finance, talent, and regional cooperation will also be held in cities including Shenzhen, Hong Kong, and Macao.
