A hydrogen fuel cell production base project was officially put into operation in the Xindu Modern Transportation Industry Functional Zone in Chengdu, capital of Southwest China's Sichuan province, on Nov 9.

The project is the southwest production base of Innoreagen Power Technology Co Ltd, a high-tech firm based in the Beijing Economic and Technological Development Area.

The first phase of the project covers an area of about 4,000 square meters and has an investment of 100 million yuan ($13.79 million). The base is expected to have an annual output as high as 1,000 sets of hydrogen fuel cell systems.

Hong Xin, chairman and CEO of Innoreagen Power Technology Co Ltd, said the company will continue to increase investment in Chengdu in order to boost the construction of the "Chengdu-Chongqing hydrogen corridor" and help the city build itself into a "city of green hydrogen".

Hong said the company will also establish a close and comprehensive partnership with the Chengdu-based Southwest Petroleum University in order to jointly construct research platforms.

In recent years, Xindu district has spared no effort in promoting the development of the hydrogen energy industry by focusing on the whole industrial chain layout of "production, storage, processing and use" of hydrogen energy.

"The new energy industry in Xindu has been developing strongly this year, and the development of the hydrogen energy industry is picking up steam," said local officials.

He Kaifeng, deputy head of Xindu, said the district will continue to support the innovative development of hydrogen energy enterprises, contributing to Chengdu's efforts to promote the green and low-carbon transformation of its energy system.
