Online event deepens ties between XMU, SMU

The 2022 Xiamen University-Singapore Management University Global Forum was held online in the coastal city of Xiamen, a city in East China's Fujian province, and Singapore on Oct 31.

Running under the theme of "Achieving economic progress through innovation in a VUCA world - Perspectives from Singapore and China", the event promoted exchanges and cooperation between Xiamen University (XMU) and Singapore Management University (SMU).

Lily Kong, president of SMU, said in her welcome speech at the forum that universities shall join hands and make full use of their advantages in an interconnected world, which is more important than ever.

Zhang Zongyi, president of XMU, addressed the forum and said that as the world is undergoing profound changes, the international landscape is transforming, the COVID-19 pandemic keeps raging with frequent flare-ups, the world economy faces a daunting recovery, and the steady economic growth of China and Singapore is of great significance to the world economy.

Zhang added that he hopes that XMU and SMU will utilize the forum as an opportunity, and further deepen cooperation and exchanges in a bid to exchange innovative ideas, solutions and for the economic growth of China, Singapore, and the world.

Nelson Ng Chiun Ming, consul general of the Republic of Singapore in Xiamen, said that Singapore and China have big goals in economic cooperation, and they also have deepened cooperation in education over the past years. Singapore and China plan to continue to deepen cooperation in the digital economy and green development to achieve win-win results.
