The 2022 Shenzhen Global Innovation Talent Forum was held in Shenzhen on Nov 1.
Seven high-profile talents, including Chinese structural biologist Yan Ning, were invited to gave key-note speeches related to the city's opening-up, inclusive spirit and talent development system.
Yan announced during her speech that she would resign from Princeton University and return from the United States to help build the Shenzhen Medical Academy of Research and Translation.
Her announcement was viewed over 300 million times on the Chinese microblogging platform Sina Weibo, with many netizens leaving messages supporting her decision to return.
During her time at Princeton University, Yan was elected as the US National Academy of Sciences Foreign Associate in 2019 for her outstanding contributions to biological sciences.
"Shenzhen is the city of dreams, and I want to realize my next dream here," the 45-year-old scientist said.
In 2017, Shenzhen implemented a regulation on talent introduction and designated Nov 11 as Shenzhen Talent Day.
Today, Shenzhen is home to over 6.62 million talents, including 22,000 high-caliber talents, over 190,000 overseas returnees, and 86 academicians.
