A rural reading activity was held in the Xinjin district of Chengdu, Sichuan province on Oct 15, to promote cultural revitalization in rural areas and improve the service efficiency of the village library.

The 2021 New Era Rural Reading Ceremony, co-sponsored by the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, and the National Rural Revitalization Bureau, attracted more than 200 people from around the country.

As the final part of the 2021 New Era Rural Reading Season, the event showcased the fruitful results of the rural reading season, which was launched in late April and consists of a series of reading activities.

During the rural reading season, the "I Love Reading for 100 Days" event opened an online free reading area, attracting 2.1 million farmers. Another video sharing activity collected 1,074 micro-video works from farmers, which received a total of more than 100 million views.

Nearly one hundred online and offline reading and sharing activities were held during the rural reading season, and outstanding activity organizers, book donors, librarians, and readers were praised at the ceremony.

During the ceremony, several farmers shared stories related to reading, promoting rural reading and carrying out reading activities on behalf of the 18 "rural reading role models" selected from around the country.

Agreements for three cultural investment projects were also signed that same day between cultural enterprises and the China Tianfu Agricultural Expo Park, the main venue of the ceremony. The park is an agricultural expo and agricultural technology comprehensive service platform that serves the revitalization of Sichuan's rural areas.

The "village library" project is one of five social welfare projects for public culture implemented by the CPC Central Committee and the State Council. As of the end of 2020, more than 587,000 village libraries had been built across the country, providing all administrative villages with the basics.
