An industrial ecosystem alliance for rail transit was officially established at an unveiling ceremony held on April 22 in Xindu district, Chengdu, Sichuan province.

The event, jointly organized by the Xindu district government and CRRC Chengdu Co Ltd, attracted more than 100 senior executives from domestic rail transit companies and government leaders.

Chengdu's transportation bureau signed a framework agreement with CRRC Qingdao Sifang at the ceremony. The deal covers the promotion of the Chengdu Rail Transit Industrial Ecosystem Alliance and thus boosts the development of the rail transit industry.

Seventeen rail transit project agreements were also signed during the event, with a total investment of 4.3 billion yuan ($661.8 million).

The creation of the Chengdu Rail Transit Industrial Ecosystem Alliance was led by Chengdu's transportation bureau in 2020. The bureau was joined by six companies and organizations in launching the alliance, including CRRC Chengdu Co Ltd, Chengdu Rail Transit Group, Southwest Jiaotong University and China Railway Eryuan Engineering Group Co Ltd (CREEC).

By establishing the alliance, local officials intend to fully gather the resources of Chengdu's rail transit field and accelerate the construction of a high-level, high-quality and characteristic industrial ecosystem.

The alliance has nearly 100 members, covering institutions of higher education and companies and organizations engaged in design consultation, innovation and scientific research, engineering and construction, equipment manufacturing, operation management and financial services in the rail transit field.

Local officials said they will take full advantage of the alliance to form a life-cycle management service system that covers consulting services, survey and design, equipment supply, operation and maintenance, among other areas. The goal is to help the city become a globally renowned rail transit industry base.

Chengdu plans to build itself into a world-class rail transit center by 2023, with the total income of its rail transit industry reaching 200 billion yuan, said the officials.
