Wenjiang district of Chengdu – capital of Southwest China's Sichuan province – was recently honored for being one of the country's most dynamic places, excelling in the category of best city for vitality and innovation in national awards.
Wenjiang was given the title "China's happiest cities 2020 • city of vitality and innovation" at the recent Happy Cities of China Forum 2020, which took place in Hangzhou, capital of East China's Zhejiang province.
Hosted by Oriental Outlook magazine and the Liaowang Institute of Xinhua News Agency, the China's happiest cities awards evaluated cities countrywide using a variety of indexes spanning employment, resident's incomes, public safety, education, transportation and healthcare.
This year's appraisal took more than three months, incorporating a big data selection, questionnaire surveys, materials declarations and expert reviews.
The latest award follows Wenjiang being dubbed "China's happiest cities 2019 • beautiful and livable city" during the Happy Cities of China Forum 2019.
Wenjiang district, covering 277 square kilometers, is located on the site of the ancient Yufu Kingdom which dates back more than 4,000 years.
Focusing on building itself as a livable and charming area, Wenjiang has been following a new development philosophy featuring innovation, high efficiency and a green environment in recent years.
Local authorities have accelerated the development of its medical industry -- integrating medical science, medicine and medical care -- to create a comprehensive healthcare sector. The district has also promoted innovation and its economic opening-up and built a more efficient transport system.
With its outstanding environmental resources, Wenjiang has become a high-profile international garden city. The south of the district has developed into a 110-sq-km modern ecologically friendly urban region, while the north has a 167-sq-km ecological park.
