The Ningbo Academician Center, part of a series of high-quality facilities in East China's Zhejiang province meant to accommodate top-tier professionals, was inaugurated on Oct 15.

The facility, located in the Dongqian Lake scenic spot, costs around 500 million yuan($72.46 million) to build and consists of two teaching complexes, a canteen building, and an apartment building, occupying an area of 52.57 mu (3.5 hectares) in total.

It is designed as an academician workstation with a focus on innovation, academic exchange, consulting, training, and business incubation. It is expected to fuel the growth of local strategic emerging industries and the service sector.

Thirty-four academicians from home and abroad have been employed to work at the center. Twelve of them have had long-term cooperative relations with Ningbo.

Han Qide, vice chairman of the 10th and 11th Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, Zheng Shanjie, governor of Zhejiang, and Qiu Dongyao, mayor of Ningbo, attended the inauguration ceremony.
