The 2020 Chengdu International Environmental Protection Expo (CDEPE), the first of its kind in western China since the outbreak of the COVID-19 epidemic, will be held in Chengdu, the capital of Sichuan province, from Sept 24 to 26.

CDEPE, powered by ECOMONDO, one of the most important marketplaces for the circular economy in Europe organized by Italian Exhibition Group, is hosted by the Sichuan Environmental Protection Industry Association and Europe China Environmental Exhibitions, under the guidance of China Association of Environmental Protection Industry.

More than 300 international and domestic exhibitors will take part in this year's exhibition, according to the organizers.

The exhibition area is expected to cover 22,000 square meters, which will be divided into several sections, including international and local pavilions that focus on water treatment, solid waste treatment, air treatment, ecological restoration and environmental monitoring.

Meanwhile, one main forum, several thematic sub-forums and corporate matchmaking events will be held in conjunction with domestic and foreign organizations, said the organizers.

"The epidemic has separated us from our counterparts around the world, but it can never block the connection among us," said Shao Zhijun, vice-chairman of the Sichuan Environmental Protection Industry Association. He added that the organizers have invited international exhibitors from countries including Italy, Japan and the United States and will create business opportunities by presenting their promotional materials.

The event will share experts' insights on the environmental protection industry's business model, market trends and international cooperation in the wake of the epidemic. International guests will present via online video calls, while domestic guests will offer live presentations.

Organizers are inviting more than 10 related schools in Sichuan province to build a display platform for innovation and entrepreneurship and scientific research transformation in the field of environmental protection. The move is intended to promote cooperation between schools and enterprises to advance ecological protection.

As a significant base for the environmental protection industry, Chengdu has 1,029 environmental protection enterprises of various types, generating total revenue of 84 billion yuan ($12.3 billion) last year, according to officials at the city's ecology and environment bureau.
