Two international express trains were launched from Nanchong, Sichuan province on July 27, heading towards Chengdu and Chongqing respectively with a full load of goods "Made in Nanchong".
The train heading to Chengdu will transport the goods to Europe via the China-Europe Railway Express (Chengdu), while the one heading to Chongqing will send the goods to Africa through the New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor.
"The operation of the trains accelerates the pace of Nanchong's integration into the Asia-Europe international logistics channel and the New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor, and thus strongly promotes the city's development into a key city involving in the Belt and Road Initiative," said an official at the city's commerce bureau.
"We will take full advantage of the Nanchong Modern Logistics Park to distribute import and export commodities," said the official, adding that the goods will mainly be exported to European countries including Germany, Italy, Spain and Russia, as well as ASEAN countries and Africa, via the two new routes.
Some 1,600 containers of electronic products, silk and clothing products, light industrial products and food products are estimated to be exported through the two routes each year, with total value of 1.5 billion yuan ($214.5 million), according to the official.
Nanchong, located in the center of the diamond-shaped hinterland of Sichuan, Chongqing, Shaanxi and Gansu, is an important transportation hub city in western China. Nanchong Modern Logistics Park is a national-level demonstration logistics park.
In 2019, the total import and export volume of Nanchong was 6.48 billion yuan. Electronic products, silk products and agricultural products produced in the city were exported to more than 100 countries and regions including Europe, America, ASEAN, Africa and Hong Kong.
