The ongoing 22nd China Beijing International High-Tech Expo is showcasing the country's tremendous technological achievements in manufacturing, transportation, education and poverty alleviation.

The development of science and technology is bound to benefit people and scientific innovation is an important helper for poverty alleviation, a senior official said.

The expo, also known as CHITEC, is committed to promoting poverty alleviation with cutting-edge technologies, according to Lin Bin, deputy director of the organizing committee of the expo.

Leading Chinese AI company iFlytek brings its advanced tech products to the third China Beijing International Language and Culture Expo with the aim of helping alleviate poverty. The cultural expo has been integrated into CHITEC this year.

Science and technology are expected to boost language development, CHITEC organizers said. They expect new development in the two fields to fuse culture and technology.

Relying on its world-leading artificial intelligence technologies and rich experience in the education information technology industry, iFlytek has developed intelligent education products targeting poverty-stricken areas in China, striving to help local people eradicate poverty by teaching them to speak Mandarin.

Among the application products iFlytek is showcasing at the event is a language training app designed for ethnic groups and people in remote areas in China.

Taking advantage of AI technologies in speech synthesis, automatic speech recognition and oral testing, the app offers programs including learning to read, 1,000 everyday expressions and independent study, so as to help people read and use standard Chinese characters.

Liu Qingfeng, the company's chairman, cited the app as an example at a language conference in April to illustrate that emerging technologies, such as AI, will play a big role in poverty alleviation.

In addition, the company's other Chinese learning platform has been widely used by some 2 million teachers and students in the Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region and the Tibet autonomous region. The platform focuses on training in listening comprehension, speaking, reading and writing.

Beijing Capital Group has displayed its latest achievements in intelligent environmental protection at the ongoing CHITEC. The technologies are expected to empower the environmental protection industry.

Auto giant BAIC Group presented its advanced research and development achievements in new energy vehicles at the expo, with a compelling lineup of off-road models on display. Of them, the BJ80 fills the blank of the domestic high-performance off-road vehicle market, Lin noted.
