UESTC ranked in Top 200 among world universities

The University of Electronic Science and Technology of China (UESTC) in Chengdu, capital of Southwest China's Sichuan province, is ranked in the top 200 among world universities, according to a recent ranking.
The 2019 Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU), released by ShanghaiRanking Consultancy, ranks UESTC in the 151-200 range among world universities. Last year, the university was ranked in the 201-300 range on the list.
Since 2003, ARWU has been presenting the world top 500 universities annually based on transparent methodology and objective third-party data. It has been recognized as the precursor of global university rankings and one of the most trustworthy.
Harvard University topped the ranking list for the 17th year. Stanford University and University of Cambridge remained at No 2 and No 3 respectively. Other top 10 universities were MIT, Berkeley, Princeton, Oxford, Columbia, Caltech, and Chicago.
Tsinghua University at 43, ranked third among Asian universities. China had 154 universities ranked in the top 1000, among which 66 are in the top 500 and four are in the top 100.
ARWU adopts six objective indicators to rank world universities, including the number of alumni and staff winning Nobel Prizes and Fields Medals, the number of articles published in the journals of Nature and Science, the number of highly cited researchers, the number of articles indexed in the Science Citation Index - Expanded and the Social Sciences Citation Index produced by Web of Science Group, as well as per capita performance.
