A team from University of Electronic Science and Technology of China (UESTC) won third place at RoboMaster 2019, a world leading robotics competition.

Sponsored and supported by the world's largest drone maker, SZ DJI Technology, RoboMaster provides a global stage for university students to pursue their passion for science and technology while showcasing their talent.

The competition requires teams of aspiring engineers to design and build next-generation robots to compete for supremacy on a battlefield the size of a basketball court. Each team has six different types of robots. These robots work together on an obstacle-filled battleground to take out the opponent's base.

Nearly 200 teams from colleges and universities in countries and regions including China, the United States, Canada, Japan, and Hong Kong signed up for this year's competition, with 32 teams battling it out in the final tournament from Aug 6 to 11 in Shenzhen, Guangdong province.

Named "One Point Five," the team from UESTC was established in 2015 and had been the champion of RoboMaster 2015 and RoboMaster 2016.

The team went undefeated through the group stage during this year's event, and defeated strong opponents including Hong Kong University of Science and Technology and Harbin Institute of Technology in the knockout stage. However, it narrowly lost to the team from Northeastern University in the semi-final stage.

This year's championship went to the team from Northeastern University, while second place was won by a team from Shanhai Jiao Tong University.
