The Shenghua community in Chengdu Hi-Tech Zone is trying to explore a new model of social governance that involves community and school, through the organization of a series of events.

The community recently held a drawing competition together with Chengdu Montpellier Primary School, inviting both Chinese and foreign students to draw the image of goat based on their own understanding of the local culture in Shiyang subdistrict.

The Shiyang subdistrict, where the Shenghua community is located, has a long history and is named after a stone goat dug out from the ground.

A total of 18 pictures created by the students participated in the voting, and more than 3,000 effective votes were received.

Previously, the community has jointly held several activities with local schools, including a traditional ritual of "worshiping teachers", a charity sale to aid children with congenital heart disease, and the construction of an international "culture wall".

The "culture wall", painted by students and teachers at Chengdu Montpellier Primary School, features paintings of renowned buildings from different countries, giant pandas and Sichuan Opera, the first impressions of foreigners about Chengdu and the stories about how they get married, build families and make their new homes in Chengdu.

Chen Minggang, Party chief of Shenghua community, said the community is striving to build into an international community, and he looks forward to exploring a new model of social governance through joint efforts with schools in the community.

Chen said he also hoped such cultural events can help foreign residents better adapt to the community life and promote exchanges of Chinese and foreign culture.
