A special charity sale was recently held in Shenghua Community in Chengdu, Sichuan province, to aid children with congenital heart disease (CHD).

The activity attracted more than 230 local families. The sellers were mainly students from Chengdu Montpellier Primary School and Yizhou Primary School of Chengdu Hi-Tech Zone.

The little sellers sold their unused books and toys at the charity sale, and donated all the money they earned to the "Hopeful Hearts" Sichuan project, a charity project dedicated to helping children with CHD in poor families.

Emelyn, founder of the "Hopeful Hearts" Sichuan project, said she was very happy about the charity event. “The children and their parents were actively involved. And they get to know more about the 'Hopeful Hearts' project," she said.

The "Hopeful Hearts" Sichuan team, which is under the Amity Foundation headquartered in Nanjing, Jiangsu province, was established in 2003. Its members are mainly expats in Chengdu. So far, they have helped more than 530 children with CHD.

A total of 12,922 yuan ($1,873), 200 books and 300 toys were donated to the "Hopeful Hearts" during the charity sale. And each of the children who donated at the event was granted a charity certificate by Shenghua Community.

Chen Minggang, Party chief of Shenghua Community, said the event can not only cultivate love and care among the children, but also helps to explore a new model of social governance which combines community and school.

Chen said the event successfully attracted a large number of foreign residents, which also helps the community to build itself into an international community.
