2018 Sino-Japanese joint symposium on separation sciences held in DICP
On July 11 to 12, 2018 Sino-Japanese Joint Symposium on Separation Sciences was successfully held in Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics (DICP) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS). Member of CAS Prof. Zhang Yukui was honorable Chairman of the Symposium. Prof. Xu Guowang, who is the executive deputy director of the department of biotechnology of DICP, and Prof. Koji Otsuka from Kyoto University, were the Chairmen of the Symposium.
At the opening ceremony, assistant director general Yang Hong gave the opening speech for the symposium. Prof. Xu Guowang introduced the origin and development of academic exchanges in the field of separation sciences between China and Japan, as well as the topic of the symposium: new methods and technologies for separation and analysis. Professor Koji Otsuka introduced Japanese delegates and expressed gratitude for DICP responsible for the Symposium and the financial supporting from SHIMADZU.

Fifteen professors from fourteen universities and institutes in Japan, including University of Tokyo, Kyoto University, etc., and fourteen analytical scientists from the CAS, Peking University, Tsinghua University and other domestic universities and institutes, were specially invited to give oral lectures. Meanwhile, five Japanese doctoral students and three young researchers from DICP showed research progress by poster presentation.
At the meeting, the researchers reported new results on gas chromatography, liquid chromatography, capillary electrophoresis, supercritical chromatography, microfluidic chips, etc., and also presented new methods for sample pretreatment, and demonstrated recent advances of these new technologies and methods in food safety, environmental analysis, drug development, and life omics (phenomics, proteomics, metabolomics, etc.).
The first Sino-Japanese symposium on separation sciences was held in Dalian in July, 2000. Since then, it has been held in turns between China and Japan four times. This Symposium was the 5th time, and will further promote exchanges and cooperation between the two sides in the field of analytical science.
