Beibei to build Golden Knife Gorge Ecological Resort Area

Already a national 4A tourist attraction, Beibei district officials are hopeful that the construction of the Golden Knife Gorge Ecological Resort will elevate Golden Knife Gorge to a 5A tourist attraction.

Expected to take three years to complete, the Golden Knife Gorge Ecological Resort Area is expected to offer more than 40 scenic spots for tourists to explore and experience the gorge's rivers, streams and mountains.

"We aim to build Golden Knife Gorge into the first summer resort in the suburbs of Chongqing and the leading example of mountain sports in Midwestern China," said a man in charge of Beibei district commission on tourism and development.

Locate in northeastern Beibei district and standing 900 meters in height, Golden Knife Gorge is 70 kilometers away from downtown Chongqing. It is famous for its valleys and karst landform.

The Golden Knife Gorge Ecological Resort Area will comprise of Golden Knife Gorge scenic area, Pianyan ancient town and Tainong Park as its core, emphasizing the construction of surrounding villages and gardens, while developing the industries of tourism, leisure and outdoor sport.

Upon completion, the Golden Knife Gorge Ecological Resort Area will introduce different sports activities like rock climbing, canyoning and valley bungee jumping in a comprehensive sports park located in Golden Knife Gorge scenic area.
