Naming contest for four panda cubs launched in Sichuan

A naming contest for four panda cubs was jointly launched by the China Conservation and Research Center for Giant Panda (CCRCGP) Dujiangyan Base and the city government of Dujiangyan, Sichuan province on July 24.

The panda cubs were all male and were born at the CCRCGP Dujiangyan Base in 2017.

Panda fans around the world were invited to name the cubs through WeChat, a widely used Chinese social media platform. The organizer will select 20 names from public submissions and conduct a vote on the internet. The top four names with the highest votes will be used as official name of the panda cubs.

The participants will have the chance to win prizes such as free tours to the Qingcheng Mountain, Dujiangyan Irrigation System, and CCRCGP Dujiangyan Base, and get close contact with giant pandas.

Dujiangyan has always been a paradise for giant pandas. 14 wild pandas live in the Longxi-Hongkou National Nature Reserve in the city.

CCRCGP, whose management center is located in Dujiangyan city, is the world's leading giant panda conservation and research institution. More than 30 giant pandas live here all year round.

The first State-level lab dedicated to panda conservation and research was established at the Dujiangyan base of the CCRCGP in June.
