UESTC strengthens cooperation with University of Glasgow

The University of Electronic Science and Technology of China (UESTC) and the University of Glasgow recently signed a new strategic agreement to strengthen cooperation.

Hu Jun, vice president of UESC, and James Conroy, vice president of the University of Glasgow, signed the cooperation agreement in Shanghai on April 12, witnessed by Nicola Sturgeon, first minister of Scotland.

Sturgeon, who addressed the signing ceremony, led a delegation to Beijing, Shanghai and Hong Kong to strengthen cooperation between China and Scotland in the areas of education, technology and business.

The cooperation agreement between the two universities includes a successive undergraduate and postgraduate study "4+1" program, a joint master cultivation "1+1+1"program, as well as a letter of intent to build a joint laboratory.

Hu, in a meeting with Conroy, said UESTC will deeply implement the strategy of internationalization and will continue to vigorously promote cooperation on personnel training and scientific research with the University of Glasgow in medicine and related fields.

Conroy said the two sides have established full mutual trust and precious friendship thanks to good cooperation over the past few years, and he expects the cooperation to reach a new level.

The delegations of the two universities also discussed the construction of joint laboratories and joint training in the medical field.

A forum on China and Scotland-Innovation and Collaboration in Health and Biomedical Science was held after the signing ceremony.

Anna Dominiczak, dean of the Medical School of the University of Glasgow, made an academic presentation on the innovation and research advantages of the university in the field of biomedicine, and talked about the opportunities and prospects for cooperation with China.

Yang Zhenglin, dean of the Medical School of UESTC, introduced the clinical, scientific research and personnel training at the school and the Sichuan Provincial People's Hospital. He spoke of future innovation and cooperation in the field of medical health between Chinese and foreign parties.
