Harbin middle schoolers submit proposal to CPPCC national committee

Yang Jinsheng, a member of the national committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), recently submitted a proposal to improve the pension service to the national committee.

The proposal called on local governments to provide specialized household management services and daily life care for senior citizens. Furthermore, the proposal advised the development of a big data platform to comprehensively record the health data of senior citizens.

While the above might read as a fairly standard procedure to improve the lives of the country's senior citizens, the fact it stemmed from the proactivity of six students from Harbin No 3 Middle School certainly makes it out of the ordinary.

These middle school students are attempting to resolve key faults of the pension service system with the application of "Internet Plus" and this forward thinking aligns with Premier Li Keqiang's ambitions of furthering the nation's senior citizen caring industry.

"There are millions of senior citizens who live alone in China. We are constantly thinking of convenient and practical ways to help these people improve the quality of their social life and health." said Liu Haoran, one of the six students who have written the proposal.

"Some service staff in communities can be arranged to pay regular visits to senior citizens and help them carry out basic physical examinations," Liu said.

He advised the establishment of special institutions to track senior people's health and report to doctors or hospitals when the seniors feel uncomfortable.

The proposal was chosen at a national simulated CPPCC conference for teenagers in Harbin. Every year, the best proposal from each delegation is submitted to the CPPCC national committee.
