The 18th Chinese New Year Shopping Festival in Chengdu, Sichuan province, has gathered about 4,000 enterprises from 47 countries and regions across the globe, displaying 200,000 categories of consumer goods.

American Ginseng Museum, an American company that is at the festival for the first time, introduced a new type of brandy and other products.

The brandy is not so popular at present. But Qian Feng, director of the company's Asia Pacific Region, is confident about the Chengdu market. "The customers here are not familiar with our products yet," Qian said.

"We will make adjustments on the sales and promotion work according to the market, and we look forward to coming back to the 90th China Food and Drinks Fair, also held in Chengdu," Qian said.

Wu Nanhui, manager of the Tibet Qisheng Special Products Co., Ltd, has come to the Chinese New Year Shopping Festival for the second year.

"We come here to further promote our products after our success here last year," Wu said.

Wu's company is said to be the largest meat-producing corporation in Tibet.

The exhibition area, composed of nine themed pavilions, surpassed 80,000 square meters for the first time. The exhibition area of overseas exhibitors take up about 20,000 square meters, turning the fair more international.

Organizers expect about 500,000 people to visit the two-week event.

"As one of the largest consumer goods promotion fairs in western China, the fair will trigger a large-scale consumption campaign in Sichuan on the threshold of the Chinese Lunar New Year," organizers said.
