The Nanhu Road North Line Extension, which connects north and south Urumqi, the capital of the Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region, went into operation on Oct 22, providing convenient access to shopping districts and sightseeing places, www.xinjiangnet.com.cn reported.
The 4-kilometer line runs from Dongbajiahu Road, extends north across Hongguangshan Road and connects Midong Avenue. Its speed limit is 40 kilometers per hour for trucks, buses and cars.
Yue Yun, head of the Nanhu Road North Line Extension project, said, “Some ancillary work has yet to be completed, including sidewalks and lighting, so the drivers should pay attention to driving safely at night.”
Along the lines are green belts, bicycle lanes and sidewalks. The project will help connect the city center and Midong district, expand the city’s eastern road network and relieve peak pressure on inner urban roads.
In response to limited city space and heavy traffic congestion, the city of Urumqi started a number of road projects, including Huizhan Avenue, the Kashgar East Extension and the Nanhu Road North Extension.
