Wudang starts construction of university for elderly

Wudang Economic Zone of the Wudang Mountains in Shiyan, Hubei province, started the construction of Wudang University for the Elderly, a center for retired cadres, on Dec 30.

Cheng Xinhua, member of the zone's Party working committee, gave a speech and announced the beginning of the project. The university will serve as a platform of communication for the elderly, promote the health of the elderly, strengthen cultural learning and inherit the traditions of respecting the elderly, according to Cheng. He also encouraged the construction team to accelerate construction, ensure the quality of the project and strengthen the supervision in the process of construction.

Covering 6,300 square meters and costing 18 million yuan ($3 million) in investment, the university will go into operation in late 2015. It consists of several functional areas, including a learning room, a reference room, a reading room and a sports room.
