Wudang kung fu, which originated in the Wudang Mountains in Shiyan, Hubei province, was staged in Cape Town, South Africa, on Nov 14 after its debut performance in Alicante, Spain, the first station of the 2014 Volvo Ocean Race.

The Wudang kung fu group presented a total of 16 performances at Victoria & Alfred Waterfront of Cape Town from Nov 14-19, attracting many audiences. Some of them took photos with the performers and were eager to study tai chi.

Liang Shugen, consul general of the Chinese Consulate General in Cape Town, investigated the Dongfeng Pavilion of Dongfeng Motor Co on Nov 16 and visited the kung fu group. He appreciated the performances and affirmed the cultural influence of Chinese tai chi in promoting communication between China and South Africa.

The combination of kung fu, motors, sailing boats, competitions and business became a highlight of the ocean race.

On behalf of Wudang and Shiyan, the group will have performances in eight other ports where the ocean race will be held.
