Wuhan saw the inaugural ceremony of the first direct flight from Wuhan to Maldives on Wednesday night. Maldives' national carrier Maldivian, operated by Island Aviation Services Ltd, announced that the maiden flight will officially take off on July 3.

The flight uses A320 wide-body aircrafts. There will be one flight a week taking off at 8 am every Thursday morning from Wuhan Tianhe Airport. The whole journey lasts only seven hours, about 10 hours shorter than previous flights where passengers flying from Wuhan to Maldives had to transfer at a third country.
