The tourist site of Tai Chi Lake and Yunyang Island in Shiyan city, Hubei province, plans to build a film center which will embody both Chinese and western elements and is expected to become a Chinese Hollywood, wudangshan.gov.cn reported.

Currently, this project is under construction; yet a movie Ode to Gallantry, to be directed by Zhang Jizhong, a famous film director in China, has already signed a contract with the center.

Sun Daojun, head of Yunxian county, introduced the overall construction plan. He said the center will combine traditional Chinese elements with western exotic elements, presenting a spectacular landscape. Sun also explained the advantages of the film center.

Firstly, it enjoys an advantageous geographical location, being connected to Yunxian county by four highways and only a 30-minute-drive away from downtown. What’s more, the airport and high-speed railways nearby will be put into operation soon. Xi’an, Shennongjia and Yichang are only 200 km, 100 km and 200 km away from the center respectively.

The convenient traffic and superior location makes Tai Chi Lake and Yunyang Island a golden tourist site. These favorable conditions will also facilitate film crews and filming work, greatly reducing overall time costs.

Secondly, this center enjoys unique historical and cultural benefits. In Yunxian county, people found a group of dinosaur egg fossils dating back billions of years and a skull fossil of “Yunyang man” from millions of years ago.

The county also has a long history of Wudang culture, which has been passed down from generation to generation. The ever-lasting and time-honored culture offers directors and screenwriters freedom of imagination and ignites the sparks of inspiration.

Lastly, with an annual average temperature from 13 to 16 C and a pleasant climate all year around, the county is an ideal resort spot for leisure, sightseeing and holidays. Sun also told the reporter that local government will provide film crews with professional services, making it more convenient to recruit needed actors, once the construction of this base is completed.

The functional zones of the film center, including the ecological and cultural zone, the holiday resort zone for water sports, the holiday resort zone for air sports and the folk culture village zone, will be more than enough for the film crew to work happily and for the tourists to have fun.
