A crew from CCTV-4, the international channel of Chinese TV, shot “Happy Chinese” at Wudang Mountains in Shiyan city, Central China’s Hubei province, from April 5 to 10, wudangshan.gov.cn reported.

Focusing on the grandeur and beauty of the area’s ancient architecture, Taoist culture and Wudang kung fu, the program will be composed of five episodes showing the culture of Wudang Mountains.

According to a local guide, many scenic spots were designed by Sun Biyun, a former abbot at Nanyan Palace, who, over five years, accomplished the task of establishing Wudang Mountains. The assignment came from Zhu Di, the third emperor of the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644).

Ma Hongjun, director of the program, said that Wudang Mountains boasts a long history of Taoism, and the purpose of “Happy Chinese” is to spread Chinese culture and help keep Chinese civilization alive through future generations. Learning Chinese is an entry point, through which Taoist culture is explained, so that more viewers can learn Chinese culture, Ma added.

“Happy Chinese”, launched in 2009, is a CCTV program to promote Chinese language and culture. It has a Chinese and a foreign host, who travel to various culture sites to discover local scenery and customs.
