Xiangyang to become 2nd largest airport in Hubei

Hubei Provincial Development and Reform Commission recently approved the feasibility study report of the Xiangyang Airport expansion project, and construction is expected to start in the second half of 2014, Chutian Metropolitan Daily reported on Jan 3.

Xiangyang Airport started operation in 1989, with a designed annual passenger volume of 100,000, but the total number of passengers exceeded 600,000 in 2013.

The expansion project, with an investment of 845 million yuan ($139.59 million), will include new terminals covering an area of 20,000 square meters. The largest airport in Hubei province is Tianhe International Airport in Wuhan city.
