Wudang and Taiwan sign cultural industry agreements

Wudang Mountain Tourism and Economy Special Region of Shiyan city, in central China's Hubei province, signed cultural industry agreements with Taiwan on Oct 26, wudangshan.gov.cn reported.

The agreements are worth 2.18 billion yuan($358.2 million), and one of the deals, linking Ali Mountain in Taiwan with Wudang, was signed with Jiayi county of Taiwan, and the "Sun Moon Lake-Tai Chi Lake sister lake cooperation agreement" was signed with Nantou county.

In addition, Wudang and Taiwan signed contracts concerning 11 projects, such as the development of cultural innovative products, related to culture, tourism, biopharmaceuticals and other fields.

There have been frequent exchanges between Wudang Mountains and Taiwan over the past few years. In addition to the first two cross-Straits Wudang culture forums and many pilgrimages, about 100,000 Taiwan residents visit Wudang every year.

Chiang Pin-kung, chairman of the Straits Exchange Foundation said during a visit to Wudang Mountains this year with Taiwan media that he hopes the platform of the Cross-Straits Exchange Base would benefit cooperation of the two sides and realize a cultural merger.

Chinese Taoism is said to have originated at Wudang Mountains, and the water source of the South-North Water Diversion Project is located in Shiyan. The city is also an important base for the production of automobiles, with an annual output of 900,000 cars.
