During Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day, large numbers of tourists overwhelmed the famous scenic spots in Hubei province, particularly Wudang Mountain, which received 200,000 people during Golden Week.

According to statistics from the Wudang Mountain special administration, the number of tourists Wudang Mountain received during Golden Week surpassed its reception capacity. Wudang received 12,000 visitors on Sept 30, 28,600 on Oct 1, and 41,300 on Oct 2. The last peak was on Oct 3 with 42,900 tourists. Though numbers fell after that, the scenic spot still maintained tens of thousands of visitors.

Zhang Zhen, deputy director of the Wudang tourist bureau, explained that Wudang Mountain received about 5,000 people per day on weekends during tourist rush seasons. At average capacity, Wudang usually receives 4,000 tourists per day. To protect the landscape and environment, Wudang Mountain had to take measures to stop selling tickets before closing time on Oct 2 and 3. Wudang posted the message to tourists in real time through media so it had little influence on tourists’ plans.

Meanwhile, the Shiyan tourist administration provided tourist maps and brochures to visitors and suggested them to select other scenic spots. Brochures of Wudang Mountain museum, the geological museum, Taichi Lake and Yuxu Palace were given to tourists for free to lighten the pressure on the hot scenic spots in Wudang.
