The silk fabric unearthed from the Chu tomb of the Warring States period in Hubei is the earliest embroidery handicraft in China and the tomb is known as the Treasure House of Silk.

The Three Kingdoms and Its Culture

Four fierce wars were taken place in Hubei among Wei, Shu and Wu to contend for hegemony. Stories of more than 80 chapters of The Romance of the Three Kingdoms occurred in Hubei province. The ancient Longzhong, Red Cliff, Jingzhou city, the Dark Wood and the Changban Slope are all important relics of the Three Kingdoms culture.

The Uprising of the 1911 Revolution

The uprising of the 1911 revolution occurred in Wuhan city of Hubei. With the leadership of Dr. Sun Yat-sen, the revolution ended the feudalism which lasted for more than 2,000 years and rooted the concept of democratic republic into the people's mind. It is the birthplace of Chinese contemporary democracy. 

Well-developed Education and Scientific Research

Hubei is one of the most well-developed provinces in education and scientific research. There are over 120 higher learning institutions, including two of the Top Ten Universities in China (Wuhan University and Huazhong University of Science and Technology) and 7 key universities listed in the National 211 Project. Up to the end of 2010, the population of undergraduate student in higher learning institutions of Hubei reached 1.4 million and that of the postgraduate students reached 103 thousand.
