Wudang Baxianguan village was elected the"top 10 attractive Leisure villages of China in 2011"

The Ministry of Agriculture published the list of "top 10 attractive Leisure villages of China in 2011" on January 17. Baxianguan village in the Wudang Tourism Economic Special Zone of Shiyan city, Guajiayu village in Beijing and eight other villages were on the list.

The opening ceremony for public voting was held by the Ministry of Agriculture in Beijing on Jul 29, 2011. Until September 15, the public could vote among 20 candidate villages through www.people.com.cn or through a short message platform. After the competent processing of local department recommendations, public voting and expert reviews, the Ministry of Agriculture drew up the list.

As a new form of agricultural industry and consumption, Leisure Agriculture has developed rapidly in recent years. It has now become the pillar to increase farmers’ income, meet people’s consumption, stimulate the country economy and expand domestic demand. So far, there have been 1.5 million rural home inns and 18,000 leisure agriculture enterprises in China. The number of tourists has increased to 400 million per year and the annual business income has been over 120 billion yuan (19.03 billion US dollar). This has benefitted more than 15 million Chinese famers.

Baxianguan village was named after the ancient Baxianguan Taoist Temple (the Taoist temple of the eight immortals). Now the village has three villager groups, which includes 132 households and 500 people. The main economic entity is Wudang Baxianguan tea and the village has developed 200 hectares of ecological tea plantations with high standard. It has become a famous characteristic and rich village. The village has gained the qualification to hold a "National village head forum" in the coming year and Wang Fuguo, the village Communist Party Secretary, has won the prize of "top 10 national excellent village head in 2011". Fuguo was the only winner in Hubei province.
