Herbal medicine on Wudang Mountain

Trumpet Creeper--rare herbal plant on Wudang Mountain

Wudang Mountain is rich in medicinal plants and well-known as a herbal medicine storehouse. The Compendium of Material Medica, compiled by Li Shizhen, records more than 1,800 types of herbs, of which Wudang Mountain has more than 400.

There is a saying that “nine out of 10 Taoists on Wudang Mountain are good at medicine."

This sums up some of the valuable experience gained through long periods of observation and practice. Some herbs can cure strokes, some branches and leaves can stop bleeding, some plants with tooth-shaped leaves can reduce swelling and the juice of some leaves can remove poison.

These days, Wudang Mountain has a Taoist hospital and medical center in Purple Heaven Palace, and a Taoist Regimen Club in South Crag Palace. Taoist medical masters can treat visitors' ailments.
