Though sharing a similar latitude with Beijing, Mount Wutai’s climate is the same as Northeast China’s Great Xing'an Mountains, which are considered to be the most northerly area of China. Thermal clothing is essential to see the sunrise at the top of the east terrace of the mountain. Roads in the high-altitude region can be blocked by snow anytime between September and May.
