The president presented certificates of appreciation to the prominent contributors of the two projects. He expressed his sincere gratitude for their notable achievements in the construction of projects and contribution to the development of China-Sri Lanka friendship.
M Dam is the largest hydro-junction project in Sri Lanka, with a water storage capacity of 570 million cubic meters and an installation capacity of 25 megawatts (MW). The integrated project has been praised for being similar to the Chinese-style "Diverting Water from the South to the North" project.
The project is helping Sri Lanka address issues such as the imbalance of water resources, flooding, and waterlogging problems.

K Dam, along with M dam, is considered a major water conservancy project currently underway in Sri Lanka.
Upon completion, the dam will divert water to the M Dam to ensure the latter's power generating capacity. It will also improve the irrigation capacity in the center of Sri Lanka, as well as provide water for industrial development in the eastern region, significantly improving the country's future economic and social development.
