POWERCHINA aims at international energy cooperation

POWERCHINA's subsidiary SEPCOIII Electric Power Construction Co has carried out the Saudi Arabia Yanbu Phrase III 5×660MW Oil-fired Power Plant project, which is the largest of its kind under construction in the world.

During construction, the company has shared advanced engineering technology and served local people's livelihoods, striving to build a new benchmark for international energy cooperation.

The EPC contract was officially signed on May 7, 2017, and it took only 10 days to start construction. Six months later, more than 8,000 workers from all over the world were gathered, and a total of over 60,000 pieces of equipment, as well as materials, were checked.

On May 16, 2018, the first unit was completed one day in advance to supply water to Medina.

Several measures were taken to meet the requirements of the project, including the internationalized management and full coverage of standards in Europe and America.

The project attracted 88 foreign sub-contractors and provided more than 13,000 job opportunities for people from over 10 countries.

For Saudi Arabia, the power plant is not only an international energy cooperation project, but also an important livelihood project.

Once the Yanbu project is completed, it will be able to meet the power demand of 10 percent of locals. In addition, the supporting desalination plant will produce 550,000 cubic meters of distilled water every day for Medina and Western Saudi Arabia.
