POWERCHINA's project of B&R benefits Pakistan

The steel structure produced by POWERCHINA's subsidiary Shanghai Electric Power Construction Co (SEPC) for Pakistan's Matiari-Lahore 660kV DC power transmission project recently started shipment.

The Matiari-Lahore power transmission project is the first direct current transmission project in Pakistan. The transmission line starts at the Matiari converter station, which is about 180 km north of Karachi, Pakistan's largest city, and ends at the Lahore converter station, about 40 kilometers southwest of Lahore, the second largest city in Pakistan.

With a total length of 878 kilometers and a transmission capacity of 4 million kilowatt, it is currently the transmission line with the highest voltage grade, longest transmission distance, and largest transmission capacity in Pakistan.

The DC transmission project is a priority implementation project of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor, and a key project of the Belt and Road Initiative. It is expected to be completed and put into operation in 2019.

The steel structure produced by SEPC includes two converter station valve halls, a maintenance spare parts warehouse, a spare smoothing reactor room, as well as auxiliary steel structures, such as profiled steel plate enclosures and special doors and windows, with a total amount of 3,000 metric tons.

In order to meet the process requirements, technical staff used the overall 3D BIM technology to model production drawings, digitally simulate the roof frame arching assembly, and make holes by connecting the blanking drawings with the CNC software.

It greatly improved the accuracy, while avoiding the in efficiency and low precision of manual stakeout.

According to the requirements of the technical agreement of the contract, the steel structure passed the acceptance of the "American Standard" pre-assembly before shipment, and the product quality fully met the requirements.

After land and sea transportation, all of the steel components will arrive at the construction site in three months.

At that time, professionals sent by SEPC will assist and guide the installation and construction of the entire process, which will contribute to the strategic cooperative partnership between China and Pakistan, as well as benefit the people of Pakistan.
