POWERCHINA powers up the world

Updated: 2019-01-10 17:15

In the past 40 years of reform and opening-up, POWERCHINA has had a number of impressive achievements.

It has been responsible for over 65 percent of construction and more than 80 percent of planning and design on large and medium-sized hydropower stations in China, and has been responsible for more than 50 percent of the world's water conservancy and hydropower construction.

The company has designed and built more than 200 large and medium-sized hydropower stations at home and abroad. The total installation capacity of hydropower among these stations is over 200 million Kilowatts, they were all built using challenging construction techniques and they all feature advanced technology.

POWERCHINA's water conservancy and hydropower planning and design, as well as construction management and techniques, have reached a world-class level.

POWERCHINA's performance throughout the entire building process (planning, design, construction, etc.) is the best in the world, and it leads China's water conservancy and hydropower industry, becoming the country's first brand with international renown.

POWERCHINA helps carry out China's national strategies and doggedly pursues reform and opening-up, constantly improving its engineering and construction management systems, hydropower engineering technology, and industrial and innovation capabilities.

At the beginning of reform and opening-up, China's hydropower installation capacity and annual power generation capacity were only 17.27 million kW and 44.6 billion kWh, respectively, reaching 341 million kW and 1.19 trillion kWh by the end of 2017, a nearly 20-fold and 26-fold increase.

The company's pumped storage power station has grown from scratch and now has an installation capacity of 28.66 million kW, putting it near the top in the world.

Worldwide, there are currently 63 dams with a height of more than 200 meters, 13 of which are in China. There are 15 dams in the world with a height of more than 250 meters, five of which are in China. This suggests that China is a world leader in the construction of dams.

China's cumulative hydropower generation capacity is 14.5 trillion kWh, enough to replace 4.5 billion metric tons of standard coal and decrease carbon dioxide emissions by 11.5 billion tons. This has helped protect national energy security, improve people's livelihoods, promote energy conservation, reduce emissions, and reduce air pollution.

China's hydropower technology has also made great progress in areas related to flood discharge and energy dissipation, underground caverns, high and steep slopes, strong overloads, hydropower engineering, construction mechanization, and automation, making China a strong international force in hydropower technology.
