POWERCHINA steps for internationalization
POWERCHINA's subsidiaries, Sinohydro Group Ltd and HydroChina Corporation, have worked endlessly to develop foreign economic aid projects since the end of the 1950s, which is also when POWERCHINA's internationalization process began.
The design institutes of HydroChina obtained the necessary documents for foreign economic and technological cooperation issued by relevant departments of the Chinese government in the 1980s.
Sinohydro obtained foreign trade rights on April 10, 1993, which meant that POWERCHINA could officially open its doors to international business by undertaking engineering contract projects and exporting necessary equipment and labor.
Since then, Sinohydro has been exploring ways for independent brands to develop internationally.
During this period, a number of iconic and globally influential hydropower projects sprung up, the most notable being the Yellow River Xiaolangdi Project, which provided Sinohydro with a rare opportunity to grow and become an internationally competitive engineering contractor.
