POWERCHINA B16 ship improves construction efficiency

Updated: 2018-12-14 14:43

The throwing and filling capacity of the B16 throwing and filling ship has been steadily increasing since it went into production on Oct 10, 2017.

The ship is a new type of throwing and filling ship for 800 kg geotechnical bags. It was independently developed and assembled by the Bangladesh Watercourse Renovation Project Department of Sinohydro Harbour Co Ltd, a subsidiary of POWERCHINA.

As production of the new ship continues, its single-day processing capacity has now reached a maximum of 3,549 800kg geotechnical bags, far exceeding the initial estimated processing capacity.

The ship uses the B16 flat barge as its foundation and is equipped with a lifting and lowering frame on its side. Geotechnical bags are delivered underwater through the guide frame.

Supporting equipment such as a chain plate machine and automatic bagging machine have been added to the barge, making it more automated, saving on labor costs and improving efficiency.

This groundbreaking new construction technology effectively solves the problem of geotechnical bags not being able to be controlled and accurately guided underwater.

During rainy season, the Padma River water level rises significantly. The B16 throwing and filling ship has improved construction conditions during rainy season. The company has already begun applying for patents for their new equipment and processes.

Since the equipment was first put into use, it has been continuously improved through joint efforts by project staff. The throwing and filling process has become more and more accurate and efficient. It has helped lay a solid foundation for future construction on the project, won unanimous praise from owners and supervisors, and played an active role in improving the construction process.
