POWERCHINA pens EPC contract for Kayan hydropower project

Power Construction Corporation of China (POWERCHINA) and Kayan Hydro Energy signed an EPC (engineering, procurement and construction) contract for the construction of the Kayan I Hydropower Station at the presidential palace in Jakarta, Indonesia on Oct 31 local time.

The signing ceremony was joined by Indonesia's government officials and Ji Xiaoyong, vice-general manager of POWERCHINA International.

Located in East Kalimantan, the Kayan Hydropower Station is a key project along Indonesia's Comprehensive Economic Corridor within the Belt and Road Initiative. After five construction phases, the hydropower station will achieve a total installed capacity of 9,000 megawatt.

Upon completion of the first phase alone, the station will become the second largest hydropower station in Indonesia. With an installed capacity of 900 mW, the Kayan I Hydropower Station will provide abundant clean energy to support the economic development of East Kalimantan.
