POWERCHINA signs another project agreement with Sri Lanka
POWERCHINA signed an agreement with the Ministry of Mahaweli Development and Environment to construct a channel linking Kalu Ganga and Moragahakanda in Sri Lanka in the capital city of Colombo on May 16.
The project is one part of the Upper Elahera Canal Project (UECP) which includes the construction of the Kalu Ganga-Moragahakanda Transfer Canal (including two tunnels) that will transfer water between the Kalu Ganga and Moragahakanda reservoirs to bolster supply in the north-central provinces. POWERCHINA will build an 8.83-kilometer-long link channel, two aqueducts and related structure.
The project also plays an important role in water allocation in northern Sri Lanka. The signing of this project contract demonstrates the competitiveness of POWERCHINA and consolidates the company’s position in the Sri Lankan market.
POWERCHINA entered the Sri Lankan market in 2004 and has already successfully implemented many key projects in the country. Among them, there are eight completed projects with a total contract value exceeding $900 million. At present, there are three major projects under construction in Sri Lanka, including the Kalu Ganga reservoir head works project and the water supply and drainage distribution system in southern Colombo.
