Chairman of POWERCHINA meets Zimbabwean president

POWERCHINA Chairman Yan Zhiyong met with Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa at the Diaoyutai State Guesthouse in Beijing on April 3.

The two parties had exchanges on deepening cooperation on infrastructure projects in Zimbabwe and signed agreements on the Kunzwe-Harare Water Supply Project. Chinese Ambassador to Zimbabwe Huang Ping and Li Yanming, deputy general manager of POWERCHINA, were present at the meeting.

Yan congratulated Mnangagwa on his appointment as president of Zimbabwe and recalled meeting with him when he visited Zimbabwe in December 2015.

Yan introduced the overall situation of POWERCHINA and its international business. He thanked the president for attending the power generation ceremony for the expansion project in the southern bank of Kalibaba last week. He also appreciated the Zimbabwean government's trust and support for POWERCHINA.

He said that as a comprehensive, oversized construction and investment enterprise that provides full-scale industrial chain integration and overall solution services in the areas of global energy power, water resources and environment, and infrastructure, POWERCHINA has been operating in Zimbabwe for many years and its business has maintained a good development momentum.

POWERCHINA is paying close attention to Zimbabwe's new round of development blueprints and is willing to actively assist the Zimbabwean government in accelerating the construction of related projects in the field of energy and power infrastructure, promoting local employment, solving people's livelihood needs and accelerating economic growth.

President Mnangagwa highly appreciated POWERCHINA's comprehensive strength and its efforts in building infrastructure and clean energy in Zimbabwe. He said that POWERCHINA is an internationally renowned integrated group for power and infrastructure investment and construction. It has extensive experience and strong comprehensive capabilities in the global energy and infrastructure industries.

After more than three years of hard work, the Kailiba Nanan Hydropower Project constructed by POWERCHINA has greatly improved Zimbabwe's power self-sufficiency. At present, one of the priorities of the Zimbabwean government is to revitalize the economy and achieve the goal of becoming a moderately developed country in 2030. To build and improve infrastructure is an urgent issue that needs an urgent solution. POWERCHINA has been operating in Zimbabwe for many years and understands its national conditions. Mnangagwa welcomed POWERCHINA's active participation in various investment and construction projects in Zimbabwe.

In recent years, POWERCHINA has actively participated in Zimbabwe's infrastructure construction including its power supply. It has successively participated in the implementation of various projects such as the Kariba South Shore Hydropower Station, the Hwange Thermal Power Station and the Harare Water Supply Project, which have provided strong support for Zimbabwe's energy structure optimization and livelihood improvement.
