The Sahiwal Thermal Power Project, built by PowerChina, received the Gold Medal Award for Outstanding Engineering Design in Power Industry. The award was presented by the Ministry of Energy (Power Division) and is the highest engineering design award in Pakistan's power industry. This is the first time a project has received a gold medal award for design.

So far, the project has received six group awards and 12 individual awards, including an environmental protection award, construction safety award and job creation award. The awards demonstrate PowerChina's strong reputation and commitment to quality.

PowerChina holds that "the quality of projects is the most important factor in overseas markets". A highly-qualified team of professionals has been dispatched to work on projects. This team overcomes various obstacles, including high temperatures in the summer, foggy weather in the winter, and the lengthy period of time needed for equipment to get through customs, making it difficult to complete the project ahead of schedule.

However, the company managed to finish in record time for overseas projects -- just 22 months. The Sahiwal Thermal Power Project is now one of the largest units in Pakistan to supply electricity to the national grid and has the highest single unit capacity, highest efficiency, high environmental protection standards and the best running economy of any unit. It has been praised by the Pakistani government as "an electric power miracle in Pakistan".
