Embroidery made by the Miao ethnic group in Southwest China's Guizhou province was spotlighted in the Salon Des Beaux Arts held at the Louvre Museum in Paris and won the prize for outstanding craft on Dec 15.

The 22-meter-long embroidery features the culture of Miao people living in Taijiang county, Guizhou's Qiandongnan Miao and Dong autonomous prefecture, and showcases the skills of the craftswomen.

Recommended by Mom Handworks, a welfare project aiming to protect intangible cultural heritages and contribute to poverty alleviation efforts in poverty-stricken areas, the embroidery took hundreds of craftswomen from eight towns and townships in Taijiang nearly a year and a half to complete.

By October, Mom Handworks has established cooperatives in 13 provinces and recorded 24 varieties of handicraft arts, 17 of which were successfully designed into over 100 kinds of modern products, benefiting tens of thousands women.

Salon Des Beaux Arts is held annually to showcase the latest trends in painting, carving, sculpture, illustration, photography, ceramics, and textiles. This year's salon was held from Dec 12 to 15, with over 600 artists from all over the world exhibiting their works.
